Fri. Oct. 29th 2010 Grove Oklahoma

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Last night was quite cool overnight in Cuba Missouri, a heavy frost on the windshield of the car, but we were warm and toasty. After some coffee and a hot cross bun for breaky we were on the road about 9:00 am. We got a chuckle of the guys standing around the office at the campground as we left, typical redneck boys, long hair, long beards, plaid shirts, jeans and baseball caps, and of course their accent tops it off. On to I-44 heading west, a great day for traveling, sunshine, no rain, no wind, no snow, great roads and scenery and fantastic company. Missouri has some interesting town names and signs, as I said earlier they must have run out of names for exit roads somewhere because the alphabet was used a few times over to label these roads.

The Ozark mountains also make for a beautiful drive, the winding roads and rolling hill, and falls colours. One thing that was really nice was the Missouri Welcome centre, with the nostalgic Route 66 theme, the decor and neon lights, even the picnic table shelters were designed and named after small businesses. Check out the pictures. While driving along I-44 near Springfield we saw the signs, and glitz of Branson Missouri calling us. We were there in 2009, even thou its an over the top tourist attraction, we did enjoy some good country music and a few shows at very reasonable prices( if you know where to buy). We resisted this time but will probably put it on our agenda again some other time.

We arrived at our campsite at 2:00 pm, Bears Den Resort in Grove Oklahoma, a nice resort and area on Grand Lake with unlimited access to water activities. We set up camp but had to change first it was very warm (love it!!) 90f (32c). Then we got to sit outside in the sun and read for a while. As we were doing this a trailer pulled in about 4 sites down from us that looked familiar. And sure enough it was Rob and Deb from Rock Glen Resort in Ontario, they are here for a couple of nights.(small world) Even stranger than this is the fact that we ran into each other at this same campground in March 2009.

After chatting a bit we retired with a tasty supper of chicken fried rice, then read a while, and bit of tv, nice relaxing night.

  1. You guys see the coolest things. Leaves are disappearing from trees, it's colder at night now...Temp hovers around 10 degrees during the day with a dull sky above. ;)
