Wed. June 22nd, I am now a senior in Ontario!

Join us as we travel North America in our
Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August 2006

A beautiful warm night, apparently we had a lot of rain too, (didn't hear it), an early sunrise and some sunshine on and off. Every so often the sun came out from behind the clouds for a bit and it was very hot, but mostly just comfortable and slightly overcast. So coffees and walkabouts, chat with a few people and try to decide what we will do today.

I took the 10 minute drive into the larger town of Forest for some groceries that are not available at the local Arkona Market. My first stop was the Beer Store to pick up our favorite brew, they were sold out in Arkona! Then filled our car with gas and saved $1.50, then went to the large Foodland grocery store to stock up on a few things we needed.
The friendly cashier asked if I get "the discount"?
What discount ?
Are you over 60?
Yes!
Wow thanks: I got a 5% discount on all our purchases today
Gotta love it, this getting old is starting to pay off.

Then back home in time for lunch and more walkabouts. Still trying to decide what to do today is really a tough decision almost as hard as trying to decide what to make for supper. Suzie wasn't much help making the decision either. We had two choices, lasagne or BBQ a steak. The final deal beaker was the weather, if its warm and sunny we do the BBQ, overcast and rainy lasagne.

So can't do much until its time. I thought I would go for a swim in the pool but there was a bunch of kids having fun, so I let them be. We can enjoy our books and wonderful weather under our awning for a while. Now its time to cook and still nice out, so I fired up the barbie to grill a prime rib steak (they were on sale today), a giant grilled shrimp each, baked potatoes, peas, fresh mushrooms and onions.
tasty meal
When we were all done, Mike and Maggie dropped by for a visit until the skies darkened, thunder and lightning, then a huge downpour. We watched the severe weather warnings on local tv, but it appeared to be on a path north and west of us about 20 miles, so no problem except a few power outages, some heavy winds, pounding rain and a light show in the sky.

Well we never did decide what to do today, we will address that problem again tomorrow. You can see how difficult it is being retired, decisions, decisions!

  1. I have to say that I was surprised to find the number of places that gave discounts for just being 60. I get Colin to shop at those places. My great find is a local pharmacy that gives 10% off the first Wed. of every month. good place to buy cosmetics, magazines, greeting cards and small gifts just for being 55 and over!! Yeah me.

Yes it is kinda nice to save a few pennies here and there, every little bit helps. Too bad we could not get a discount on wine and beer too!
