Fri. Sept 30th Cold, wet and windy..

This is the last day of September and it's cold, wet and windy. About 8c (46f) heavy rains and strong winds all day. So we are not outside too much today, computing and reading and fine tuning some of the resorts we plan to hit for the first part of our winter migration.

While surfing the net I was just reading food recipes and got the urge to cook something so  I made up a nice mushroom/ham and cheese omelet with fried potatoes for brunch, something we have not had for a while.
tasty brunch

Thurs. Sept 29th, More Rock Glen Resort

Today is not too cool, but not much sunshine either. Puttering around, chatting with various different people thru out the resort discussing each others travel plans for the winter and sharing information about different resorts. The nice thing about rv'ers is we are usually a friendly bunch and willing to learn and share with each other. We all have something in common, we love the lifestyle.

We had the constant noise of machinery droning in the background all day still preparing the entrance to the resort for paving. And I think if the weather holds they may pave it tomorrow.

Wed. Sept 28th. More fun

 since August 2006

Well here we are just enjoying the campground, planning our winter migration and still enjoying the mild weather. When the sun shines we run out to grab a few rays of this great vitamin source. This morning I helped neighbor Jack set up his digital converter box in his trailer. Not sure why he was having problems but it worked for me so now he has some new digital tv channels. Then I found a place to set up our Sirius Satellite radio, check out the features of this new toy, install a battery for the remote, surf some of the commercial free radio stations. I know we will enjoy it.

For a couple of days now we have some free entertainment in the resort and just like little kids we are keeping and eye on the excavation, digging up the old broken pavement and getting things ready for a facelift at the entrance to our resort.

Tues. Sept. 27th, A nice fall day

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August 2006

Now this morning is bright, sunny and warm, a great way to start a nice fall day. Enjoying the morning outside, walkabouts chat with a few people, a quick trip to the store in town for a few items, love the weather.

Mike and Trish dropped by and gave us a Sirius satellite radio they no longer use, to try in our coach. He gave me a demo, it hooks up wirelessly to our existing sound system. I am looking forward to trying it out when we are on the road, maybe we might even listen to the radio once again. Thanks guys for the radio.

After a quick bite to eat for lunch I started by taking our Fantastic Fan apart for its annual cleaning, (go to this link on how clean a Fantastic fanso much easier now that I figured how to get the fan blades off. Now that I got started and the weather was nice, up on our roof to remove the three vent covers and give them a good cleaning as well. Perfect day for it warm and sunny but not too hot.

Mon. Sept 26th Just another rainy day

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Up early this morning and its overcast, and raining but at least its warm. Coffee, computing and a walkabout in the rain hoping it will clear up. No chance today. So what to do on a yukky day? Putter around, research the internet, look for ideas for supper, collect some rain water and washed our coach and car in the nice warm rain.

Checked out the pool and hot tub and thought about going for swim but came back home and got side tracked starting supper early. Today I am going to do pork spare ribs, low and slow on our Weber Q-100 . I seasoned the ribs wrapped in foil with sauerkraut and on the grill on low for 2 hours. Removed the ribs from the foil, back on the grill, slathered with my bbq sauce long enough to caramelize, making them tasty, sweet, sticky and fall-off-the-bone delicious. For the last hour I added some baked potatoes and carrots, broccoli w/cheese on the side.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Sunday morning and gonna be a nice day, we have been here for two weeks, its time to hit the road again we get itchy feet. So morning coffees, computing, walkabout and chat with a few people secure our coach and we are on the road at 9:30 am. Sunday morning is a good day to drive thru the city of Toronto (any large city for that matter) with a much lower volume of traffic. As usual we stopped at the half way point, Milton to fuel our coach and car stretch and have lunch.

Fri. Sept.23rd First Day of Fall.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Funny how the weather can be so strange from one day to the next. Thursday the last day of summer was a perfect summer day, sunny, hot , blue skies even a warm summer evening. Today is the first day of fall and its very cool, overcast skies and drizzly weather off and on.

This morning our friend Karen came over for morning coffees and brought a very fresh, tasty chelsea bun to share for breakfast. She came to visit yesterday on her day off from work but has to go back in this morning to sell a few more Rv's at Owasco Rv centre.

Thurs. Sept. 22nd. Last day of summer

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

This is the last day of summer and we have had a pretty good one. To celebrate the weather decided to give us one more fantastic day.  It was mild overnight and a bright sunny morning that stayed with us all day.

Up early as usual our friend Karen came over for morning coffees with us and chit chat ( just like we did many years ago in Algonquin park). She brought along a delicious homemade zucchini loaf to nibble on as well. After this walkabouts and a quick trip to town for a few items. We puttered around for a while then outside to read on such a gorgeous day even Karen's dog Fiona and Siamese cat Leo enjoy the outside.

Wed. Sept 21st, Changing weather

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

This morning began with overcast cool and drizzly, a big change from yesterday. But by noon it had cleared up a bit, sun shining and did get quite nice for the afternoon. The wood carving guys were here for a while and began working on the large tree stumps by the office. It was interesting to see him assessing the wood and where to proceed from there.

Tues. Sept 20th, A wonderful sunny day...

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

This morning the sun shone bright in a mostly cloudless sky. The warm fresh air of Ontario's cottage country is wonderful. Morning coffees, computing and can't wait to get outside for a walkabout. Lovin it, feels like we have an instant replay of summer. So into town for a few groceries and stopped at a farm market around the corner then back home to putter around outside.

Then a bite to eat for lunch and we can relax outside with our books, it was 84f (29c) in the shade, my kinda weather. Then about 3:30 pm we took a short drive to visit John and Barb just outside of Buckhorn, we met a few years ago at an RV rally in Georgia. They are renovating a cottage here and have been staying in the fifth wheel trailer for the summer.

Monday morning and the beginning of a brand new week. We had a busy weekend now we can maybe relax for a bit. Its cold and rainy pretty well all day so between raindrops can go for a walkabout, then a drive to the store and to the reservation, check out the new gas station and save a little on fuel for our car. Also enjoying some of the native carvings and decorations that were set up in time for the Pow wow on the weekend.

Sun. Sept. 18th, Mexico revisited..

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Up early and its sunny, coffees, computing and walkabouts then, its such a great morning I was able to inspect and touch up some caulking on our coach. This done, a bite to eat for lunch then we are off to visit Warren and Joyce, managers of Tres Amigos Rv Park in Mazatlan Mexico. We met then when we stayed there for two months in the winter of 2009-2010. They happen to live about 35 minutes from Galvin Bay resort so we got in touch with them and made a day trip to visit.

Sat. Sept 17th, Curve Lake Pow Wow.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Another wonderful fall day, and we find out that the Curve Lake Pow Wow is happening today and tomorrow. It is only a 10 minute drive from our resort to the reservation and everyone is welcome. We have never been to a real Pow wow so lets go. "Pow Wow means gathering or celebration".

So after a bite to eat we head over to check this out. Along the road thru the reservation past some stores and vendors where we find a spot to park our car and get a shuttle bus to the Pow wow, lotta people.  At the entrance I paid Suzie's admission ($7.00) but seniors are free, thats me!! I like this already.

Fri. Sept. 16th . The weekend is here.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Again a cool morning, 5c (40f) but in a few minutes our furnace makes us toasty warm, then as the sunrises it takes over.  A beautiful sunny day is in store for us and it's wonderful enjoying our morning coffees, watching the news, checking email, the trees and scenery all around us.

After morning walkabouts and a late breakfast we took a very scenic 20 minute drive to Bobcaygeon. Cruise around town, the lift lock and check out the area where I spent many weekends many, many years ago. Always amazing how so much has changed and yet so much is still the same. We did notice while on the road there was a bit more traffic than the rest of the week, cottage country this is for sure, even the grocery store had about 25 cars in the parking lot compared to two or three we have seen all week.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,

It was cool overnight 4c (40f) sure good for sleeping under a pile of blankets, but its that time of year and as long as the sun is shining during the day its not too bad. Our campsite is nice, gets lots of sun and shade even the neighbours are quiet so all is good here.

Wed. Sept 14th. A nice fall Day.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Not much happening these days as we put in time until we head south, but we always manage to keep busy, planning, cleaning and enjoying the end of summer weather.

A nice bright morning and the temperature is rising from 10c (50f) to eventually a high of 22c (70f), so after coffees, computing and walkabouts putter around. I started with the mini blind over our kitchen sink. We don't use it much but have noticed it was getting quite dirty. All the other blinds have been removed, washed and restrung a few times but never this one. Kinda awkward to get at but I managed to get it and the valance down. I am sure they have never been cleaned before (12 years) so it was a good thing we did.

Tues. Sept.13th. Cooling down brrr.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Its a good thing we shampooed our carpets and upholstery yesterday, because today it was overcast, too cool and breezy. Today was a research day again, we computed a bit and are working on a possible itinerary for this winters migration. I plot out a possible route on Microsoft Streets and Trips looking for easy traveling days between membership campgrounds (we have over 700 to choose from) or free overnight stops. Now an easy traveling day is from 9 to 2 with a 15 minute stop about every two hours to stretch, and a stop for lunch. If we see something interesting we have time to stop and if we like an area we stay for a while as well, so much to see and do.

Once we get to warmer weather we like to stop for a week or two at most destinations and just enjoy the local atmosphere of small towns. After planning a route on my computer I will copy the file for Suzie to put on her computer so we can discuss the plan and adjust accordingly, of course in will change many times along the way as well, this is really just a guideline.

During the day the occasional walkabouts the resort, chat with a few people, enjoy the peace and quiet, and wildlife on a fall day at a not too busy time of year.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Happy Monday morning! Warm weather, sunshine we are having another nice day. In fact its so nice that today we have a project, a perfect day to steam clean our carpets and upholstery. So into Buckhorn and found a rental steam cleaner and chemicals so we can begin our chores. We move lotsa stuff outside to make room to work. All carpet and upholstery will be cleaned. Just a couple of hours work and all looks good as new. While waiting for this to dry we washed all our blankets that we use as throw covers, they too get pretty sandy.

Kevin and Desiree's Wedding

We started off Saturday morning, bright and sunny, computing, coffees and walkabouts then pack up and off to visit family friends Christine and Bill, near Scotland Ontario. Her son is getting married today and we are going to share this special day with them. It was a nice country drive  only 133kms.
We parked on their property chatted and caught up with them for a while before we had to get dressed up, (no hat, vest, shorts or sandals for me!) and head out for the 4 p.m. wedding only a few minutes away.
me, Suzie and a 59 Ford
We parked our car and made our way thru the huge tents that were set up for the occasion. To the other side was the gardens, gazebo, pond and impressive outdoor living room on the back of the house complete with coaches, fireplace, infared heaters, huge bar and the largest barbeque I have ever seen.
ourdoor living room
Before the ceremony started a very nice bagpipe band played and the wedding party made their entrance, and all witnessed this special occasion on a perfect fall day. After the lovely ceremony cocktails and hors d'oeuvre's served in the gardens with very efficient waitstaff. Everything from a seemingly endless supply of chicken, sushi, lambchops, yellow perch, bacon wrapped scallops, cocktails etc.. just kept appearing while the wedding pictures we taken around the property.

Then the pipe band played again leading the bride, groom and wedding party back into the tent. Everyone seated and more food was served, impressive huge steaks individually served, hot and melt in your mouth tender, for over 200 people. If you didn't eat beef I guess you were out of luck.

The meal was followed as usual by the speeches, deserts, specialty coffees, dancing and celebrating. We stayed as long as we could then back home to call it a night.
me and Suzie

Sunday morning we are up early as usual then in the house to visit a bit more with out hosts Chris and Bill for coffees and Suzie getting her dog fix this morning.
Suzie and another dog

After our fill of coffee its time to pack up and hit the road, to Galvin Bay resort near Buckhorn Ontario, with a beautiful rainbow to start the trip with. We are on the road about 10 a.m. with the first stop just off hwy 401 at Kitchener to meet mother with a package for her. A quick visit and hug we are back on the road stopping at Milton for fuel and food. Then east thru Toronto with no traffic problems for a relatively quiet sunday noon.  We passed our first fall fair on hwy 35/115 verifying that fall is on the air.

302 kms

About 2:30 we pulled into the resort, proceeded to set up and were greeted by neighbors Frank and Heather on one side and Mary on the other. Even before we had our satellite dish setup Frank, Emile and Monique had joined us for happy hour, gotta catch up with everybody's travels. Happy hour winds down then time for supper and today is an easy one, a fresh spaghetti squash cooked in the microwave and heat up some homemade spaghetti sauce we had in our freezer just for a quick meal like this.

Now after supper the weather cools down outside so we can have a nice relaxing evening inside with our books and a movie on tv. Its really nice to put our feet up after a couple of busy days.

Fri. Sept. 9th, Sunshine yeah!

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Up early this morning to watch the sunrise and it did! Blue skies, no clouds, warm gonna be a wonderful day after four days of overcast and rain. So outside to play, walkabouts chatting with neighbours, helped Rich and Mary-lou wire in and setup a 12 volt digital tv converter for the new digital channels on their older tv.

Then just puttering around tidy up outside, scrub our large muddy patio mat. Put away a few things, check tire pressure etc, we are on the road in the morning to Scotland Ontario for a wedding tomorrow.

Now with such a sunny warm day we can sit in the shade and enjoy our books once again after lunch, chat with a few new neighbours then a happy hour with Rich and Mary-lou. Until its time for supper, tonights craving being wings, fries, with celery and carrot sticks so plug in the Fry Daddy fire up the barbie and soon we are eating.
yummy supper
After supper we happened to notice that Len and Darlene had their fire going so we gathered up our chairs and a beverage to join them and three other couples for a couple of hours chatting around probably one of the last campfires we will have here at Rock Glen this season.

We also heard from some friends on Vancouver Island where the earthquake happend and all is well with them out there.

Thurs. Sept 8th, Another yucky day

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Once again its cool, cloudy and drizzly most of the day. Morning coffees, computing and walkabouts in the rain then into Forest to pick up a few items. Putter around inside and a bit outside between the rain showers, chat with a few neighbours and finally about 3 pm we were able to sit under our awning and read for a while, until eventually it felt too cool and damp.

So I fired up our BBQ to grill a small lean pork roast, potatoes in foil with onions and butter, zucchini slices and applesauce for a tasty supper. Sure love our Weber grill.
yummy pork roast
Now after supper it appeared to warm up a bit and we were able to read outside until almost 8 o'clock when it got too dark. Boy the days are really getting shorter.

But as most rver's will agree even the worst day camping is much better than the best day working, love this lifestyle.

        Thanks for stopping by.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,

Well its been a busy summer and it seems like fall just suddenly appeared. Another cold rainy day and it pretty well rained and drizzled all day. So another day puttering around, computing, planning our winter migration, a couple walkabouts and we actually watched a couple of dvd movies that we have been saving for a rainy afternoon. Its been a long time since we have done that and it was really nice for a change.

With the afternoon movies done I whipped up a nice rainy day supper, looked in our cupboard and found a Hamburger Helper Stroganoff, added a few spices and veggies a tossed salad and enjoyed a great tasty meal.

What a great way to begin the last long weekend of the summer!

Well we have been feeling like summer is on its way out, but today it came back with a vengeance. When we got up this morning it was quite warm and humid and the temperature just kept climbing. We had our coffees and computing done, then got our extra lawn chairs and tables out. My daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren are coming for a day visit. They arrived just before noon and the resort is beginning to fill up. Trailers are arriving in a steady stream to enjoy the hot weather.

Thurs. Sept. 1st. Summer's Over???

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Today is Sept. 1st and it always reminds me that summer vacation is over. As a child my sister and I spent the whole summer at our family cottage a couple hundred yards from Georgian Bay close to Wasaga Beach/Collingwood Ontario with our grandparents. This posting on June 3rd tells more about the cottage. Sept.1st marked the last long weekend of the summer, we went back to the city, (Scarborough, a Suburb on Toronto Ontario). We got to go to the CNE (Canadian National Exihibition) and spend the money we earned with summer chores on midway rides, games and food. Then it was back to living in the city and back to school. I always looked forward to the CNE but not living in the city and going back to school.

Now this same long weekend and a little bit older now we have mixed emotions. The last summer rush to the campground, celebrations and fun, the weather will be getting colder and the days shorter. But now we don't go to the CNE anymore, no more school, no more city living,we are on a permanent vacation. The temperature with humidity was 36c (94f) I love that, and once everybody else goes back to work and school next week the campground will be nice and peaceful, very relaxing and then we will begin planning our winter migration, exploring new sunny warm southern destinations, before winter sets in here.
